Dear Friend,
Welcome! I am delighted that you have chosen to visit our site. I hope that you will find it helpful as you learn more about who we are as a congregation and how you can join us in fulfilling our purpose as a church, namely " Knowing Christ and Making Him Known." Shortly before going to the Cross to die for our sins, Jesus prayed these words to His Father: " And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent" (John 17:3). In these words, Jesus reveals that eternal life is not found in merely knowing about God – as important as that is, but rather in having a relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ. Thus, at Newberry ARP Church our focus is leading people to and nurturing people in a vibrant life-transforming relationship with the risen Christ.
It pleases me to share with you the five primary ways we seek to know Christ and make him known here at Newberry ARP Church:
1 ) Worship: "One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple." (Psalm 27:4) Our highest privilege during the week is gathering with the saints each Lord’s Day morning at 11AM for the corporate worship of our Triune God. Our traditional worship service is reverent, joyful and Spirit-filled. We believe in the primacy of Christ-centered expository preaching, and our current series is A Study of the Gospel of Mark. We also seek to equip the saints for individual and family worship throughout the week.
2 ) Teaching: "Give ear, O my people, to my teaching; incline your ears to the words of my mouth!" (Psalm 78:1) We seek to equip the saints for life and ministry through various teaching ministries. We offer Sunday school for all ages each Sunday at 9:45 AM. Our children’s classes follow the curriculum of Great Commission Publications, and we currently have four adult classes from which to choose. What we believe the Bible to teach is summarized in the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms.
3 ) Prayer: "If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land." The spiritual ‘ powerhouse’ of our life and ministry as a church is our weekly prayer meeting, which meets each Wednesday night at 6:30 PM in the sanctuary. We pray for one another, our witness as a church, revival in our community, and missionaries around the world. Our current devotional series on Wednesday nights is Through the Bible in One Year.
4 ) Fellowship: "Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!" (Psalm 133:1). As the family of God, we enjoy being with one another through Ladies’ Circles, Men’s Breakfasts, Youth Group, Over-55s Group, frequent church-wide meals, and other times of fellowship.
5 ) Missions: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19). We seek to be faithful to the Great Commission by being a missions-minded church that practices evangelism and outreach here in Newberry and supports both local and foreign missions with our ‘ time, talent, and treasure.’
We cordially invite you to join us on Sunday mornings as we worship our great and loving God, and as we grow in grace together in the inestimable privilege of knowing Jesus Christ and making Him known!
Your Servant in Christ,
Mantle Aaron Nance
